CLASSIC YACHT ASSOCIATION – PNW FLEET
POULSBO RENDEZVOUS, SEPTEMBER 23 – 24, 2006
The
2005 Poulsbo rendezvous will be held on the weekend of September 23 -
25, again at the Port of Poulsbo Marina. Thirty of the best slips on the
“E” Dock as well as the end of this dock have been reserved for our
yachts. More than half of the slips are 40 ft, the others 30 ft. We are
grateful to the Historic Downtown Poulsbo Association (HDPA) for arranging this
complimentary moorage. This means there will be no charge to CYA yachts
participating in this public event.
This will be our
ninth annual rendezvous in Poulsbo, a wonderful, old-fashioned town
located in the protected innermost part of Liberty Bay, just west of the
northern part of Bainbridge Island. The town has a wide variety of
shops, restaurants and pubs, as well as other attractions. It’s a
friendly place and we have always been welcomed there.
Most of our CYA
yachts usually arrive in Poulsbo Friday afternoon. Slips will be
assigned by VHF radio as each vessel approaches the Port of Poulsbo
Marine, when hailing Lady Grace on Channel 68. To have a slip
reserved, CYA members who plan to attend are requested to contact John
Jacobsen, Event Coordinator, at the earliest possible date and provide
him with the length and beam of their vessel.
On Saturday, our
yachts will be on display for the public. Yachts whose skippers allow
it, will be open for boarding. Our yachts will be joined by Old Man
IV, designated an Honorary Member of the CYA Pacific
Northwest Fleet. Saturday evening, the traditional pot-luck dinner by
CYA members is being scheduled at the “E” Dock end, along with
story-telling, etc There will also be awards of prizes from the daytime
“Poker Run” being organized by a number of Poulsbo shops for our CYA
ladies.
Sunday morning, CYA
members will have their pot-luck breakfast at the “E” Dock end. We will
then again have visitors, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Our rendezvous
will end around 2:00 pm, with the presentation of the “People’s Choice”
plaque.
This should be a fun weekend. It’s another opportunity for us to get
together, enjoy the hospitality of Poulsbo, have a good time and to let
others see the many beautiful yachts in our fleet.

Honorary Member: Old Man IV
|

"OLD MAN IV" is the Commander, Navy
Region Northwest Command Cutter. She was designed by Ed Monk, Sr., and delivered
to the United States Navy in 1957 from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Rear Admiral Albert M. Bledsoe, then Commandant of the Thirteenth Naval
District, was the first to receive the vessel. The Thirteenth Naval District
became Naval base Seattle in 1980, and was renamed Navy Region Northwest in
1999. Old Man IV has served 30 Admirals since 1957.
The only vessel of its kind built by PSNS,
Old Man IV is the last in a series of command cutters that remains operational.
The vessel's double-planked hull is made of Alaskan yellow cedar with natural
teak decks. The cabin is constructed of mahogany and fir.
Old Man IV's role in the Pacific Northwest
is one of ceremonial representation. The vessel has been used by national
and local military and civilian officials, as well as foreign dignitaries.
Old Man IV has traditionally served as the lead boat for Seattle's Opening Day
festivities for the boating season, as well as supporting the Seafair
celebration by mooring with the start/finish line vessels for the hydroplane
races.
Old Man IV is a classic vessel and the
Navy tries to include her, where possible, at a number of the area wooden boat
festivals, community relations events, race challenges and holiday cruises. Her
presence assists the Navy in public relations, recruiting and raising the
general public's awareness of the U.S. Navy and Naval traditions.
