The
Rendezvous of Classics 2005
Welcomes You
August 26, 27, and 28
Roche Harbor Resort, San Juan Island, Washington
Also known as the CanAm -- Canadian American -- a late summer gathering of
classic motor yachts.

Roche Harbor Resort on San Juan Island is
hosting a grand rendezvous of classic yachts, sports cars and aircraft on
the 26th, 27th and 28th, the last weekend of August. All of the viewing is
free, and moorage half-price to CYA craft.
This is the second year the gathering will not
only show the best of the vintage oldies, but also be a charity event to
help support the only full-fledged medical center in this county of 122 islands.
The event will formally begin around 6pm at
the dockside "Party Barge" on Friday the 26th, with drinks and edibles
served for a charitable donation. Many boaters, pilots, drivers and
admirers will have begun to arrive at the resort the previous day or even
earlier.
Those organizations participating are the
Pacific Northwest fleet of the Classic Yacht Association, the Sports Car
and Croquet Club of the San Juan Islands. Planes and motorcycles round-out
the display of old and well tended vehicles. A brief description of
the craft and vehicles to be displayed is as follows:
Yachts -- The Classic Yacht Association
is a group dedicated to the preservation, restoration and maintenance of
fine old power-driven pleasure craft built prior to December 1942. There
will be 15 to 20 such boats on display, ranging from 70 feet down to a
vintage mini cruiser of 20 feet. Moored on the main dock at the center of
the harbor, many will be open to boarding by the public.
Automobiles -- The Sports Car and
Croquet Club of the San Juan Islands was formed in 2002 by a group of local
car enthusiasts. Their first meeting brought out a broad mixture of
vintage and classic sports cars, most of which will gather on the lawn
next to the swimming pool on Saturday the 28th. Many Ferraris, Jaguars,
Porsches, Mercedes and some rare European and domestic models will be on
display Saturday.
Aircraft -- Depending upon weather,
cranky motors and other concerns, a number of old and unusual aircraft
will fly into Roche Harbor and park at the most westerly end of the
runway, adjacent to the arch at the resort entrance. Everyone is
invited to view the planes and chat with the pilots. In the meadow across
the road is a fine display of sculpture.
